Welcome to Part 2 of your guide about Dental Implant treatment at Claregate Dental Practice, in Wolverhampton.
My name is Bhup and I am the Practice Principal and implant dentist at the practice. I also provide Invisalign support too.

Am I a suitable candidate for dental implants? What determines suitability?

- We will assess your general and oral health, including your gums and jawbone carefully before deciding your suitability for dental implants.
- This may involve a 3D x-ray (called a CBCT scan) and a digital scan of your mouth.
- Everyone’s anatomy is different and some patients may need extra bone (called a bone graft) or a sinus lift etc.
- Implants can be used for single gaps or larger spaces too.
What are the risks / downsides / failure rates?

- Dental implants have been used successfully for a long time, and we use a world-renowned brand of implants (Straumann).
- Hence, the have a very low failure rate. But sometimes, on rare occasions, the bone does not integrate with the implant. Often, these cases need longer healing times to succeed.
- After the surgery, some discomfort such as pain and swelling will occur, but these are managed effectively with painkillers.

- Risk of infection is often reduced with antiseptic mouthwashes and antibiotics.
- You may need a few days off work to recover from the surgery stage.
- Implants can last for many, many years if they are looked after and maintained. We advise annual checks of your implant and your mouth.
- With general wear, sometimes the screw holding the crown onto the implant may require tightening, or replacement.
How natural will it look / feel?

- The implant is placed in your bone; hence it is not visible.
- The crown or denture that is placed onto the implant is created by a skilled dental technician.
- Will modern ceramics and acrylic materials, we can make your implant teeth match existing tooth colour, shape, appearance.
